Yeahhhhhh.....

Motion City Soundtrack - Stand Too Close

ps - productivity at a low

Song of the Day #74 - and i see black black green and brown brown brown brown and blue yellow violets red.

I actually found this song a little annoying on my first listen.  But now I'm not quite sure why that was.  If you don't like it at first....step away for a day....and then try again.  If you still don't like it....sorry.

Grouplove - Colours

ps - blah

Song of the Day #73 - she's got it better than me

I wish these guys had a better band name.

Mando Diao - Jeanette

ps - from beginning this post to finishing it, i actually took a 5 minute nap.

Song of the Day #72 - there’s something underneath my bed

Good stuff!  I don't really have time to say much else.

V V Brown - Shark in the Water

ps - this final four is pretty ridiculous. i'm rather checked out.

Song of the Day #71 - and there's dancing!

It's got a long-ass intro, but this song is crazy fun.  I saw them at a day show during SxSW '08 and they were one of the most energetic, fun and just plain happy bands I've ever seen...so passionate, pleased to be playing for an eager audience, and ridiculously into what they were doing.  I've been a big fan ever since.

Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing!

ps - can't decide which was better between girl talk part 1 or part 2, but both nights were amazingly fun and i came out equally sweaty, smelly, and exhausted after both.

Song of the Day #70 - when the dj play the right song, gon' drink, gon' party, all night long

Black and Yellow was entertaining enough, but grossly overused, and by the time every school or team adapted it to their own colors I was pretty much ready to shoot myself.  I'll probably regret making this a song of the day pretty soon once we all hear it a bazillion times, but in the meantime, I'm gonna live it up like it's the weekend.  (cause it is)

Wiz Khalifa - No Sleep

ps - my name is nick and i like to party
pss - girl talk (part 2) tonight!

Song of the Day #69 - i'm still breathing, my heart's still beating

After catching up on a little tv tonight, I decided to sit on my sofa, take down a couple glasses of wine, and just let my winamp play a set of random songs from everything I have on my computer for about 45 minutes.  This whole working a ton thing is a real drag.  Regardless, it was amazingly relaxing and something I think I need to do more often to unwind.  And out of it, I determined today's song of the day.  One of my favorites from brit-pop rockers, Ash.  So sad they're no longer making albums...

Ash - Twilight of the Innocents

ps - it's song of the day #69. hehe.
pss - happy birthday, little bro!

Song of the Day #68 - and i don't think i said what i should've said

 The Boxer Rebellion - Evacuate

ps - my least favorite sentence at trivia: "this round is going to be about current events."

Song of the Day #67 - cancel all operations, tell your friends to cool it

Yes!  Just heard this for the first time in ages tonight and it is instantly going back into heavy rotation.  Belle & Sebestian's "rock opera" is nothing short of fantastic.  Get your indie dance on.

Belle & Sebastian - Your Cover's Blown

ps - i have become the most ADD and inefficient worker ever.

Song of the Day #66 - get to the ocean 'fore i run too low

Just feeling this song today.  That's all I got.

Sea Wolf - You're a Wolf

ps - i want to win the lottery.

Song of the Day #65 - we got no money, but we got heart

I literally only heard this song for the first time about 2 hours ago.  In those 2 hours, though, I've probably listened to it at least another 8 times.  I think that makes it worthy of a song of the day appearance.  I also want to be at this party.

Walk the Moon - Anna Sun

ps - girl talk (part 1 of 2) tonight!

Song of the Day #64 - oh girl, what are you thinkin?

Studies show that effectively executed "oh-oh-oh's" can up the goodness of a song by up to 32%.  Can't argue with science.

The Features - Lions

ps - hook 'em!

Song of the Day #63 - hey, philadelphia

I really do love this video, but most importantly is that I think this is a really good song.  One which I discovered because of SxSW...several years ago.  I'm so ahead of the curve. (if you know me, you know that 83% of what I say has at least a tiny tinge of sarcasm to it)

Hollerado - Americanarama

ps - i miss sxsw.

Song of the Day #61 - i can't compete

Jimmy Eat World is and will always be one of my favorite bands.  And this is probably my favorite off their most recent album. (it's also the opening track)

Jimmy Eat World - Heart is Hard to Find

ps - this is my most sober st patty's day in a long time.

Song of the Day #60 - you make me go ooo-ooo-oooh

I heard this for the first time in a long while earlier today, and I pretty much instantaneously knew I'd be making it the song of the day.  Love it.

Camera Obscura - French Navy

ps - big thumbs up to whoever chose that dress for emily blunt in the adjustment bureau. if you've seen it, you know what i'm talking about.

Song of the Day #59 - i hope you know that i'm for real, my love is super-size, ain't no happy meal

A rap song advocating safe sex that features the band Train?  And it has video game noises interspersed throughout?  Where do I sign up?!?  Seriously, this is the most odd, yet awesome song I've heard this year.  Chiddy Bang where have you been all my life?

Chiddy Bang - Baby Roulette (featuring Train)

ps - i think this post has way too many question marks.

Song of the Day #58 - it's a chemical reaction based upon attraction

I only discovered Telekinesis a few weeks ago and I gotta say I like what I've heard so far.  I'm not even sure this is the best song on their new album, 12 Desperate Straight Lines, but it's the one that initially sparked my interest.  The Death Cab comparisons are probably fair, but these guys have quite a bit more pep in their step.

Telekinesis - Car Crash

ps - saw a play sat night called God of Carnage.  i quite enjoyed it...solid performances and pretty funny.   it's from the playwright who wrote Art and it won some tony's back when it was on broadway.

Song of the Day #57 - let's make this happen, girl

They sing pretty fast in this song.  But it's no Informer (by Snow).

Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work

ps - zach galiafinakis' axe body spray joke during his monologue on snl tonight had me laughing for a good minute.

Song of the Day #56 - i've been waiting far too long to feel the sun on my back

Just because this is what I did today...  (sorry for the lame video!)

The Academy Is... - LAX to O'Hare

ps - my stomach hurts.

Song of the Day #55 - you look like topanga before she got fat

I'm not sure I would have ever expected Semisonic's "Closing Time" to be sampled for a hip-hop beat, but geez...this is infectious.  I just can't resist.  And the Topanga line alone is worth the price of admission.

The Five One - Closing Time

ps - i was in the same room as judd apatow, paul reubens, and seth green tonight.  as miley would say: "and yeah, it's pretty cool"
pss - on a more serious note, thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the brutal earthquake in japan. hope all will be ok.

Song of the Day #54 - i'm not the most cocksure guy, but I get more bold with every smile

Another song that's been waiting in the song of the day wings for quite some time.  Pretty fantastic.  Many will say it has a Kings of Leon tinge to it, and I guess that's true, but I'm pretty much over KOL and I sorta hate using them as a basis for comparison.  Oh wells. I particularly love the horns coming in towards the end.

Menomena - Taos

ps - the mahna mahna guy on the muppets is awesome.

Song of the Day #53 - b-b-b-b-baby you're so hot

It's kind of weird to me that someone would make a video for this song solely with photos of Avril Lavigne...but, I'm not complaining.  It's the only non-live version of the song I could find in my 30-second search, and anyone who knows me knows I love me some Avril.  But that has nothing to do with the selection of this song.  It's just a damn good one.  Glam-pop-rock at its absolute finest.

Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonights  - Hot Girls in Good Moods

ps - expect much more from mr. butch walker in the future on this here blog.

Song of the Day #52 - i can't understand it

You can never go wrong with a little Ra Ra Riot.  They just sound so.....pleasant.  Always.

Ra Ra Riot - Too Dramatic

ps - massive cheers to whoever greenlit rango.  that is certainly no kids movie.

Song of the Day #51 - are you ready? do you know?

This one's pretty sweet to crank in the car with the windows down on the open road.  Except you can't really do that in LA.

Nero - Me & You

ps - retro video game music videos are so hot right now

Song of the Day #50 - remember that night you were already in bed, said "f**k it" got up to drink with me instead

It's song of the day #50...no big whoop.  I don't know if anyone is going to like this...  but I kinda love it.  I want to be young again.

Japandroids - Younger Us

ps - 8am is too early to wake up on a sunday...

Song of the Day #49 - but i'm not the girl you're takin' home

I've almost made this the song of the day about 48 other times.  Though pitchfork has been all up in her grill for a while now, she's apparently finally getting some airplay.  Well deserved, Robyn...well deserved.  I'm hoping Robyn is the La Roux of 2011.

Robyn - Dancing On My Own

ps - i went to bed at 11pm last night.  wow, i'm lame.

Song of the Day #48 - and you dig it

Cause I'm waking up super early tomorrow.

The Hives - Early Morning Wake Up Call

ps - this is actually a cover of a song by flash and the pan

Song of the Day # 47 - we can't rewind now, we've gone too far

Well I'm a horrible dancer, I ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try
Yeah I'm a shitty romancer, baby, ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try

Yep.  Never would've guessed these guys would be the first repeat band on this song of the day thing, but hey, I never thought Charlie Sheen would become an adored American treasure, either.  I haven't been able to get this out of my head since I saw them open for Panic!.  But that's ok.

The Limousines - Internet Killed the Video Star

ps - pretty kickass video, too. zombies are so hot right now.
pss - those are some BIG zombie boobs

Song of the Day #46 - it's the greatest thing you'd ever imagine

So I saw Panic! At The Disco tonight at the Roxy. Totally unexpectedly. It was a really good time...I'd never seen them before and they kinda rocked out.  The set was only a little over an hour, but they played most of the essentials off both their older albums (which are so amazingly different it's kind of weird), as well as some new stuff.  I'd say the new stuff is closer to the first album than the second, but overall still sorta different comparatively.  I respect that.  For the song of the day I thought about giving y'all their new track , and then I thought about being cliche and giving you one from the first album, but I think I'm actually going to go with one of the really catchy numbers off of Pretty. Odd. (album #2).  Cause, I mean...why not?

Panic! At the Disco - Pas de Cheval

ps - the limousines (sotd #7) opened with a nice little 5 song set.  thoroughly enjoyed them.

Song of the Day #45 - the girls all dance the same

The only problem with this song is it's too freakin short.

Coconut Records - Minding My Own Business

ps - i'm sneezing a lot and i don't like it.
