I actually found this song a little annoying on my first listen. But now I'm not quite sure why that was. If you don't like it at first....step away for a day....and then try again. If you still don't like it....sorry.
It's got a long-ass intro, but this song is crazy fun. I saw them at a day show during SxSW '08 and they were one of the most energetic, fun and just plain happy bands I've ever seen...so passionate, pleased to be playing for an eager audience, and ridiculously into what they were doing. I've been a big fan ever since.
Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing!
ps - can't decide which was better between girl talk part 1 or part 2, but both nights were amazingly fun and i came out equally sweaty, smelly, and exhausted after both.
Black and Yellow was entertaining enough, but grossly overused, and by the time every school or team adapted it to their own colors I was pretty much ready to shoot myself. I'll probably regret making this a song of the day pretty soon once we all hear it a bazillion times, but in the meantime, I'm gonna live it up like it's the weekend. (cause it is)
Wiz Khalifa - No Sleep
ps - my name is nick and i like to party
pss - girl talk (part 2) tonight!
After catching up on a little tv tonight, I decided to sit on my sofa, take down a couple glasses of wine, and just let my winamp play a set of random songs from everything I have on my computer for about 45 minutes. This whole working a ton thing is a real drag. Regardless, it was amazingly relaxing and something I think I need to do more often to unwind. And out of it, I determined today's song of the day. One of my favorites from brit-pop rockers, Ash. So sad they're no longer making albums...
Ash - Twilight of the Innocents
ps - it's song of the day #69. hehe.
pss - happy birthday, little bro!
Yes! Just heard this for the first time in ages tonight and it is instantly going back into heavy rotation. Belle & Sebestian's "rock opera" isnothing short of fantastic. Get your indie dance on.
Belle & Sebastian - Your Cover's Blown
ps - i have become the most ADD and inefficient worker ever.
I literally only heard this song for the first time about 2 hours ago. In those 2 hours, though, I've probably listened to it at least another 8 times. I think that makes it worthy of a song of the day appearance. I also want to be at this party.
I really do love this video, but most importantly is that I think this is a really good song. One which I discovered because of SxSW...several years ago. I'm so ahead of the curve. (if you know me, you know that 83% of what I say has at least a tiny tinge of sarcasm to it)
Jimmy Eat World is and will always be one of my favorite bands. And this is probably my favorite off their most recent album. (it's also the opening track)
Jimmy Eat World - Heart is Hard to Find
ps - this is my most sober st patty's day in a long time.
A rap song advocating safe sex that features the band Train? And it has video game noises interspersed throughout? Where do I sign up?!? Seriously, this is the most odd, yet awesome song I've heard this year. Chiddy Bang where have you been all my life?
Chiddy Bang - Baby Roulette (featuring Train)
ps - i think this post has way too many question marks.
I only discovered Telekinesis a few weeks ago and I gotta say I like what I've heard so far. I'm not even sure this is the best song on their new album, 12 Desperate Straight Lines, but it's the one that initially sparked my interest. The Death Cab comparisons are probably fair, but these guys have quite a bit more pep in their step.
Telekinesis - Car Crash
ps - saw a play sat night called God of Carnage. i quite enjoyed it...solid performances and pretty funny. it's from the playwright who wrote Art and it won some tony's back when it was on broadway.
I'm not sure I would have ever expected Semisonic's "Closing Time" to be sampled for a hip-hop beat, but geez...this is infectious. I just can't resist. And the Topanga line alone is worth the price of admission.
The Five One - Closing Time
ps - i was in the same room as judd apatow, paul reubens, and seth green tonight. as miley would say: "and yeah, it's pretty cool"
pss - on a more serious note, thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the brutal earthquake in japan. hope all will be ok.
Another song that's been waiting in the song of the day wings for quite some time. Pretty fantastic. Many will say it has a Kings of Leon tinge to it, and I guess that's true, but I'm pretty much over KOL and I sorta hate using them as a basis for comparison. Oh wells. I particularly love the horns coming in towards the end.
Menomena - Taos
ps - the mahna mahna guy on the muppets is awesome.
It's kind of weird to me that someone would make a video for this song solely with photos of Avril Lavigne...but, I'm not complaining. It's the only non-live version of the song I could find in my 30-second search, and anyone who knows me knows I love me some Avril. But that has nothing to do with the selection of this song. It's just a damn good one. Glam-pop-rock at its absolute finest.
Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonights - Hot Girls in Good Moods
ps - expect much more from mr. butch walker in the future on this here blog.
I've almost made this the song of the day about 48 other times. Though pitchfork has been all up in her grill for a while now, she's apparently finally getting some airplay. Well deserved, Robyn...well deserved. I'm hoping Robyn is the La Roux of 2011.
Robyn - Dancing On My Own
ps - i went to bed at 11pm last night. wow, i'm lame.
Well I'm a horrible dancer, I ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try
Yeah I'm a shitty romancer, baby, ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try
Yep. Never would've guessed these guys would be the first repeat band on this song of the day thing, but hey, I never thought Charlie Sheen would become an adored American treasure, either. I haven't been able to get this out of my head since I saw them open for Panic!. But that's ok.
The Limousines - Internet Killed the Video Star
ps - pretty kickass video, too. zombies are so hot right now.
pss - those are some BIG zombie boobs
So I saw Panic! At The Disco tonight at the Roxy. Totally unexpectedly. It was a really good time...I'd never seen them before and they kinda rocked out. The set was only a little over an hour, but they played most of the essentials off both their older albums (which are so amazingly different it's kind of weird), as well as some new stuff. I'd say the new stuff is closer to the first album than the second, but overall still sorta different comparatively. I respect that. For the song of the day I thought about giving y'all their new track , and then I thought about being cliche and giving you one from the first album, but I think I'm actually going to go with one of the really catchy numbers off of Pretty. Odd. (album #2). Cause, I mean...why not?
Panic! At the Disco - Pas de Cheval
ps - the limousines (sotd #7) opened with a nice little 5 song set. thoroughly enjoyed them.
