Saw these guys last night. Pretty solid show. I've always said they're a band with one great song and a number of pretty good ones. I think this one falls in between pretty good and great.
This is that one song from that Heineken commercial. This is also that one song from that one band that sings that one song about "good times around the bend". It's good.
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age
ps - airborne toxic event tonight! song to follow (maybe).
For your enjoyment...here are the first 100 102 Frazier Approved Songs of the Day in one nifty little player. Just keep it open in a tab in your browser and you've got hours of music to get you through the day.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can randomize the songs here, so if you'd like a little more flexibility and have a truly random Frazier Approved Radio experience, just follow this link to grooveshark... http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Frazier+Approved+Song+Of+The+Day/42618144?src=5
(then you can just click "Play All" and then the little shuffle songs icon with the two arrows)
ps - you could also go to my youtube playlist, and click "play all", but you'd occasionally get some commercials.
Welp, I've hit 100. I figured I would've given up by now, but I've been enjoying this, and it keeps me on the hunt for good new music. So, I figured for this entry I'd go with an all-time personal favorite of mine...one that I think got well-deserved recognition back when it first came out, but has been mostly forgotten since. If you listened to alt rock in the mid-90's, then you'll definitely remember this one...
Spacehog - In the Meantime
ps - spacehog is actually really good!...extremely underrated. unfortunately, they'll always be remembered as a one-hit wonder.
Formerly known as The Weather Underground. An LA band that I saw play at SxSW 08 and then never really heard from again until a few months ago when I came across this song and made the name change connection. They've got a nice little intensity to them.
Not only do these guys have one of my absolute favorite band names ever...but also, I just love, love, love their stuff. It can be an acquired taste, mostly because of the lead singer's non-traditional voice, but I think it's awesome.
This one dates back to when I was a freshman or sophomore in college. Really fun, though possibly a skosh overlong. I couldn't find a video on youtube other than a crappy live version, so for now, just listen to it on this nifty little grooveshark player.
Rustic Overtones - Simple Song
ps - don't come to LA, obama...i don't want to do deal with the unnecessary traffic misery you create.
Janelle Monae should've been a song of the day ages ago. She should also be so much bigger than she is. The ArchAndroid was easily one of the best albums of 2010, yet I feel like no one but the music blogs listened to it. Check it out!
Janelle Monae - Cold War
ps - watched the last hour of kanye's set at coachella on youtube....wow.
If I were at Coachella, I wouldn't mind seeing these guys today...
Cage the Elephant - Shake Me Down
ps - i just took a look back at the lineup for this year, and this marks the 12th coachella 2011 band to grace the posts of the FA song of the day... i want to go to there...
The dudes responsible for the great theme song ('C'mon C'mon') to the often great show Rescue Me (which will soon have its final season) have other songs! This is one of them and it's pretty great.
I'm so sorry...I've gotta go Foo again. The new album comes out today, and I'm loving it more with each listen. Almost went with Bridge Burning, and then almost went with Walk, but this one won out...can't really explain why...
Foo Fighters - Arlandria
ps - don't be surprised if the majority of songs on this album pop up here over the course of the next month.
I know B.O.B. gets a bad rap for being a bit too glossy and overproduced..too poppy, if you will...but I think a lot of his stuff is pretty fun. This is definitely my favorite off The Adventures of Bobby Ray - elevated by the always great, Lupe Fiasco.
I joined the Blur bandwagon way after they even ceased to be a band. And I regret it immensely. So many great songs...you would do well for yourself to peruse that back-catalog if you're ignorant like I was.
Blur - On Your Own
ps - at least that's what i think the lyrics are...
Of the numerous "raw indie-ish" British bands that arose after the explosion of the Arctic Monkeys, I think these guys are one of the better ones. LOVE their 1st album, and though the their 2nd one was a bit of a step down, it gave us this gem... I believe album #3 is coming out soon.
The View - Shock Horror
ps - finally just saw the series finale of big love...i think they took the easy way out with that one...
My absolute favorite band from Austin. This one's a keeper.
What Made Milwaukee Famous - Hellodrama
ps - yesterday i traded tickets for a comedy show for a straw cowboy hat, an australian "swagman" hat, amc/regal passes, an itunes giftcard, and a tower records gift card. the dude was so weird, but i just had to do it so i could say i did....
