I've been wanting to get some hip-hop back on here for a while, and though I'm still combing through new stuff (most of it is junk), this one popped on yesterday and it brought back some good memories.
Not quite sure what it is about this song...maybe it's the simple beat that sounds like it's right off a Casio keyboard...maybe it's the consistent monotone delivery...but damn, it's really freaking addictive.
Diamond Rings - You & Me
ps - i'm mad at london for ruining women's beach volleyball.
I saw Ruby Sparks today (which I liked quite a bit) and the soundtrack stood out quite strongly with a few pretty cool French tracks. However, I'm not ready to designate any of those as a song of the day, so instead, you get a Regina Spektor song with a French chorus.
Regina Spektor - Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)
Everyone's favorite buzz band of the moment. Caught them on a bill with Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon and The Joy Formidable earlier this week and they didn't disappoint. I get a little restless listening to them for extended periods of time, but there's no denying this sh*t is good.
The Lumineers - Dead Sea
ps - war horse tonight! the play, not the movie. (ftr, i really enjoyed the movie)
It's a crime that Mr. Benson has never made this here blog. For those who don't know, he's the "other" singer of The Raconteurs (aka the one that isn't Jack White). I've been a big fan of his solo stuff for years, and this is one of my favorites.
Brendan Benson - What I'm Looking For
ps - apparently mary poppins can defeat voldemert.
'Anna Sun', one of my favorite songs of the last few years, was Frazier Approved over a year ago...and now, the boys in Walk the Moon finally have a full length album and are getting some notoriety. Coincidence? Most likely. But I'm very happy to see it. I'll FINALLY be seeing them live this Wednesday, so here's another good one....
I guess you could call JJAMZ some sort of mini-supergroup...its got members from Rilo Kiley, Maroon 5, Phantom Planet and The Like...not too shabby of a collection. Here they've got the 80s electro-pop in high gear...and I dig it.
JJAMZ - Heartbeat
ps - i don't think my apartment has ever been this clean.
Yet another band I know very little about, but need to take the time to listen to more. There's just too much music to discover in this world. I do know they're British. And I do love me my Britrock.
Mystery Jets - Someone Purer
ps - party on a boat tonight. over/under on how many times people yell "i'm on a boat!"?.... 291?
ps - watched batman begins and half of the dark knight tonight. them's some good flicks. unfortunately, i don't get to see dark knight rises till sunday...
I've been kind of obsessed with these guys for the past 2 days. Everything I've heard so far is extremely solid, and the fact that they hail from Austin, Texas, only makes me like them more. There's some Death Cab to them (probably this song in particular), but they're much more than just that.
Quiet Company - Fear & Fallacy Sitting in a Tree (You Were Doing Well Until Everyone Died)
This would've been on here back in March if I'd still been updating this...but alas, I missed the boat. It really is a great tune, though, so for posterity's sake...
Imagine Dragons - It's Time
ps - started watching sherlock tonight (the bbc version)...highly entertaining stuff.
I've been avoiding putting this song on here since I restarted this blog, because of the Foster the People connection, but I just can't hold off any longer. It's just too good.
Sometimes you wake up and a random song pops in your head even though you haven't heard it in a while. This was that song today. And it's a great one.
The Wombats - Techno Fan
ps - tonight i (and some friends) saw a couple awkwardly ending a date in a parking garage. at the same time, florence + the machine's 'shake it up' popped on the radio. so naturally, we rolled down the windows, cranked up the volume, and drove past them as slowly as possible. it was pretty awesome.
Lidell can be a little bit all over the place, but this is one of those songs that just never gets old...and it's a great one to wake up to in the morning.
Jamie Lidell - Little Bit of Feel Good
ps - definitely sore, but not as sore as i thought i'd be...
Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 or 10 listens before you start to like or appreciate a song...other times something just clicks on that very first listen and you're instantly obsessed. This is a case of the latter...
A fun ditty told from the point of view of Johnny, the poor kid who gets crane kicked in the face in The Karate Kid. Think early Maroon 5 meets nostalgic pop culture references.
I wish this video was better, but it does have some amazing cameos.
