I wanted to put these guys's song 'Write Me a Myth' on here, but it's not on youtube or even grooveshark. It's alright, though, because they have lots of other good songs...like this one...
I wish I'd known about these guys when I lived in Austin...
Quiet Company - You, Me, & the Boatman (Truth Is, I've Been Thirsty My Whole Life)
ps - taking back sunday's 10-year anniversary of tell all your friends acoustic show was pretty fantastic. thursday is the plugged in 10-year anniversary show. i shall be there.
Freelance Whales were so good last night at the El Rey. I went in expecting a pretty chill, maybe even boring show, and they just killed it. They had so much more energy than comes off in their recorded songs and it made me actually enjoy listening to their albums significantly more after the fact (something I don't get to say very often). They've previously been featured on here with Generator ^ First Floor, so naturally, let's go with the "sequel"...
Freelance Whales - Generator ^ Second Floor
ps - i was supposed to go see carrie underwood perform in someone's living room tonight, but it didn't work out...i don't think i've ever been so bummed to miss a show where i wasn't even a fan of the artist
Not the first, and probably not the last, song called 'Warrior' to be featured on here. While the first was more of a dance number, this one probably fits more in the ballad category.....
Foxes - Warrior
ps - i ate broccoli and peas and carrots for dinner last night. you're welcome, body.
If I surfed and lived in the 60's, this would totally put me in the mood to head to the beach and catch some waves. Unfortunately, I neither surf nor live in the 60's, so I haven't yet figured out what this puts me in the mood for.... Regardless, it's good!
Not sure if these guys are even a band anymore, but they made some good tunes back in their day. If you like Hockey or Black Kids or even Friendly Fires, you'll probably dig this.
The Virgins - Rich Girls
ps - on stage, florence is like a 12-year old girl having the time of her life
Muse was one of my favorite bands of the early to mid 00's....albums 1 (Showbiz) and 3 (Absolution) still blow me away, I've seen them live 5 times (always an amazing show),and 'Knights of Cydonia' is probably one of my favorite songs ever...but something never truly clicked with me on their last album, The Resistance. It felt like they were getting a little too big for their britches and just looking to continuously one-up themselves to the point where it got kind of boring.
So far I've only heard half the new album, The 2nd Law (out yesterday), and am still forming an opinion (though I'm not sure this "one-upping" has stopped all that much), but I've already found a couple tunes on there I think I like more than most of what I remember from The Resistance. Regardless, I want to let the new stuff digest for a little before I throw any songs on here, so let's go back to what got me into Muse way back when...
I heard a remix of this ages ago that I liked a decent amount, but soon forgot about it until I crossed paths with the original version in the last few weeks. It's good stuff.
Crystal Fighters - At Home
ps - i was in a suite at the dodgers game last night...a game with playoff implications...and everyone was watching monday night football... sounds about right.
