I'm always late to the EDM party...and I'm not really sure I even wanna be let in.... But sometimes it's fun to just stand outside the door and do a little dancing.
Must admit... I've never really known The Roots all that well beyond a few songs and their residency on The Tonight Show. Regardless, I know this one...and it's a goodie.
The Roots - How I Got Over
ps - mr. robot is the best new show of the summer. deutshland 83 is the 2nd best new show of the summer.
So happy these ladies have reunited....first time Veruca Salt has had their original lineup since Eight Arms to Hold You in the late 90s. Just crushing it with this one.
I knew I was gonna dig this hard within 20 seconds. It's like a mid-aughts Britrock band crossed with Black-Parade-era My Chemical Romance. I could listen to this all day.
The Struts - Could Have Been Me
ps - how much does anthony jeselnick hate being on last comic standing?
Maybe the most hipster band I've ever seen live...at least looks and stage personality-wise... but that don't mean they can't make some good tunes. Peaches, anyone?
In the Valley Below - Neverminders
ps - i don't have a random thought at the moment other than the fact that i don't have a random thought
So not my scene....this dude has a song on spotify that has nearly 270M plays...and I've definitely never heard it before. Anyway, this is not that song...this only has 61M plays...and it is also my current favorite song to go to sleep to.
Robin Schulz - Headlights (feat. Ilsey)
ps - starting to worry more and more that me and music just aren't moving in the same direction any more...
ps - lyricsgenius says that if i like this song i'll probably like some nicki minaj's 'feeling myself'....hmmm, someone should work on that algorithm...
Just a little Muse shout out since I got to see them last week. I'm a bit Muse'd out these days, but the show definitely reinvigorated my love for some of the older stuff.
They didn't even play this song, but it's always been a favorite.
I think I usually prefer these guys when they shy away from their hip hop tendencies....unfortunately, they just don't do it enough. But when they do...we get gems like this...
Twenty One Pilots - Tear In My Heart
ps - ive seen nearly every single episode and @midnight continues to entertain me
The new indie darling on the scene and for good reason. Not every song works for me, but I must admit I've fallen prey to her endearing 90's grungy slacker rock.
Courtney Barnett - Nobody Really Cares If You Don't Go To The Party
ps - bummed about this whole mad men being almost done thing
I've always been pretty bored with MS MR...and then I heard 'Painted'... Man, did they pick things up. If they keep up with this intensity and urgency on their new album I may very well have to jump on the bandwagon.
Is this a good song? No, most likely not. But just for its sheer level of lovable absurdity, I had to put it on here. What a mix of dance pop, edm, people trying their best to sing in English and barely succeeding.....and SIR MIX-A-LOT. YES!
Speaking of passion (see: yesterday's post)...there's been two new Passion Pit songs released in the last week...I don't even know what to do with myself I'm so excited. I think I'm liking this one better so far.
Passion Pit - Where The Sky Hangs
ps - has it really already been two and a half years since goassmer came out?
I know critics and snobs hate Cold War Kids, but damn them...I think they can write a pretty good, sometimes great, piano-driven rock song. Yes, they can also write some garbage...but this one's not garbage. Clap those hands!
Cold War Kids - First
ps - sundays are so much better when there's no work on monday
Probably his most low-key track to date....but for me, Kanye and that damn auto-tune equal great success. 809's and Heartbreak, please?
Kanye West - Only One (feat. Paul McCartney)
ps - if i wasn't so lazy, this and the next several songs would've been up here weeks ago. i'm getting back on this train...no more 3 week lulls. maybe.
From the movie God Help the Girl (written and directed by Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian fame), which I finally checked out last week. Loved the soundtrack, found the movie a bit meh. This one opens up the movie and is actually a reworking of Belle & Sebastian's 'Act of the Apostle Part 2'.
Emily Browning - Act of the Apostle (from God Help the Girl)
ps - i really, really wanted to like this movie more...but i'll be listening to the soundtrack for quite some time
Happy 2015! We're gonna start off the year with a series of songs that are on my Spotify playlist entitled "Songs I Forgot About". Basically, it a list of songs I enjoy that I really don't listen to much (if at all) these days, but that I happened to come across in the recent past and thought, "man, i really like this song and I can't remember the last time I listened to it. I guess I seem to have forgotten about it so I should put it on that playlist that I made in Spotify that is intended for songs that fit this same description of events and then I can listen to it more...", Enjoy.
First stop, Snow Patrol! Really, the whole Final Straw album should be on this list. So good.
Run - Snow Patrol
ps - foo fighters just played for 3.5 hours. dave grohl is the greatest.
