So, uh, Blink came out and played a set totally unexpectedly. That was pretty fantastic. Matt Skiba filled in just fine, but it was definitely a little weird without Tom. Still a blast. We'll go ahead and do a Tom song
Alright, missed a few days, and I think we've exhausted the Coachella theme... so let's get into Weenie Roast! Man, it was a fun fest. We'll start off with the first act I saw... Lukas Graham. Whatever your opinion of '7 Years' is (I dig it), this guy/band has talent. This one's a little homage to 'Hard Knock Life'...
Lukas Graham - Mama Said
ps - looks like anthony kiedis is ok after the hospital scare...glad to hear it.
I made no effort whatsoever to see 'ol Sufjan because I thought he would bring out the boring, but everything I read after the fact said otherwise. It was supposedly one of the best sets of the fest. So now I have my tix to see him at the Bowl in August. Boy better not disappoint. This song is so damn beautiful.
I actually had no interest in seeing the Pickups (tough timeslot and I saw them several months ago), but I just really dig this song. There's at least one song (if not more) every album that they just absolutely knock out of the park.
Another Sunday act I missed because I couldn't get there in time. The first time the Coachella bus system has ever failed me. This girl kicks some ass.
Probably the band I'm the most bummed to have missed. Just scheduled too early on Sunday. As you can tell by the spelling of "you", this is not, in fact, of Kelly Clarkson.
Hadn't really ever heard these guys until I started listening to Coachella playlists in the weeks leading up to the festival. So very much wish I'd gotten there early enough on Friday to check them out.
The Front Bottoms - Laugh Till I Cry
ps - oh yeah, i never made any comments about the draft. i guess that about sums up my thoughts.
Now onto a smattering of stuff I didn't get to see, but wanted to... (in no particular order). We'll start with a little Grimes. Unfortunate that she was up during GnR. Definitely need to see her live at some point...I bet it's just nuts.
We braved 30 minutes of the Sahara tent post sunset for these guys and it was fun....as fun as barely being able to move and developing claustrophobia can be.. The best part was EASILY Stephen Jenkins coming out and singing a minute of 'Jumper'...the worst part was that he only came out for a minute.
The Chainsmokers - Good Intentions (feat. BullySongs)
I prefer them indoors, but I still made a point to catch 20 minutes of their set. Outside of their singles, I haven't listened to much CWK since the first album. Let's go back to that one...
I only went to his set for about 15 minutes for the nostalgia, but Pete Yorn was a nice refreshing change from most of the other stuff at the fest. And he definitely brought a much older crowd than most of the other stuff at the fest. I totally forgot this song existed until about 20 minutes ago (and apparently he played it right after I left), but it was most certainly my favorite off his first album.
Pete Yorn - For Nancy ('Cos It Already Is)
ps - i really thought 'life on a chain' was yorn's only "hit", but the spotify play counts tell a different story...
Been waiting to get to Sunday of the fest so I could post one from these guys (their 4th on the blog).
They're just so damn fun...so fun I had to go see them again the following weekend when they played in LA. If you don't leave their show sweaty and with a giant smile on your face, you're doing something wrong.
Crystal Fighters - Love Natural
ps - and no, they're not gonna win any awards for their lyrics
